Somatic Experiencing: Body-Centered Trauma Resolution

Trauma occurs when an event is more than we can handle and integrate. Certain events would be traumatizing to anyone, and other events are traumatizing to one person and not another.

Children are amazingly resilient and can recover well from all sorts of challenges and difficulties. As a parent, you know all too well when your child is not recovering from stress or trauma. Don’t despair. Trauma resides in the nervous system in a way that causes a traumatized person to mistake the present for the past. When a person’s nervous system is supported in the present and finds safety there, it can begin to reset itself to present time.

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-centered method for resolving trauma for people of all ages that works great with kids who take to it naturally. It focuses on the health and safety present right now to build the capacity to integrate what happened in the past. It is not necessary to know what happened for this therapy to be successful.

My intention is to assist my clients to achieve greater resolution of their traumas so that they can be remembered in ways that are rooted in the full and dynamic stories of their lives today. In present time, the challenges of one’s life can be sources of strength that embolden and empower. When this strength is consistently accessible, the need to carry the pain of the past or fear the future in debilitating ways dissolves.

I use my full skill set as an SE practitioner, Craniosacral Therapist, Polarity Therapist and Prenatal and Birth Therapist to support each individual I work with to re-establish deepen and maintain their access to the whole story of their traumas and their lives.

I have worked successfully with a variety of traumas including auto accidents, prenatal and birth trauma, emotional and relational issues, physical injuries, ritual abuse and sexual abuse. I am passionate in my commitment to assisting people to create coherent, embodied, and meaningful lives through the fullness of their stories.

I have been in private practice since 1997. I have been an SE practitioner since 2001. I came to this work as a client, and became a practitioner because I wanted to help others find the quality of resolution and freedom that I have experienced through this work.
